Effects of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) modified live virus vaccine on the host response of nursery pigs to co-infection with PRRS virus and porcine circovirus type 2b

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) contribute to a group of disease syndromes termed porcine circovirus associated disease (PCVAD). Two of these disease syndromes include porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) and postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS).1 Management of PCVAD through the use of inactivated and subunit vaccines have led to the effective control of PCV2 in the United States. However, the emergence of new PCV2 strains has created an uncertain future for continued PCVAD control.
