摘要

The quality of carbon anodes/cathodes has a significant impact on the efficiency of aluminium production. Anode or cathode quality depends mainly on the properties of raw materials such as petroleum coke and coal tar pitch and on selected process parameters in green article production and baking. Possibility of usage easily accessible anthracite from Gorlovo basin for cathode production is one of Energoprom-Novosibirsk Electrode plant advantages. Carbon blocks made of calcined anthracite have high mechanical strength and thermal stability due to unique anthracite structure and can be successfully used for high amperage aluminum smelters. Final anthracite firing temperature is one of the most significant factors for coke microstructure. In this work temperature dependence of electrically calcined anthracite properties from Gorlovo basin was examined. Cokes obtained at different temperatures were used for manufacturing of cathode blocks and properties of cathode block were analyzed.
