Aspects of Land Degradation in Lagging Regions: Extent, Driving Forces, Responses, and Further Research with Special Reference to Ethiopia

摘要

Land degradation is a major factor behind the low agricultural productivity of Sub-Saharan Africa. Poverty in Africa is still predominantly rural, and a majority of the rural population is dependent on the agricultural sector. This puts land degradation at the center of an agricultural-poverty nexus. Dealing with land degradation is central to addressing both poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
