A Technique of Lung Imaging Using Polarized Helium

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with inhaled hyperpolarized 3He is a method for imaging lungs being developed in several research centers, including the Institute of Physics, Jagiellonian University. The process of optical pumping is described and potential implementations are mentioned.
