We propose and study experimentally a feedback-controlled laser system capable to generate a long picosecond pulse train of stable amplitude as well as regular pulsation with discrete period. The regime is realized due to the secondary electro-optical effect. The different pulsation periods were obtained by adjusting the beam position in the intracavity DKDP crystal aperture in resonance with standing acoustic waves. The observed periods from 7.8 μs down to 0.52 μs are in good correspondence with the frequencies of the first 10 shear acoustic modes of the crystal. The regular pulsation regime has a great potential in a medical laser-electron X-ray generator design and other applications.
