GASNET is a "thematic network" project supported by the European Commission. Its objectives are to evaluate the present treatment in safety assessments of issues arising from the generation of gas in deep geological repositories for nuclear waste, and to improve the translation of scientific information on these issues into safety arguments for such repositories. An overview is provided of the work that has been undertaken within the project and of the preliminary observations and conclusions that have been assembled.
