The international development of EDF, started around the year 1990, has known a period of dynamic growth until around 2001 in all the areas of the world: Europe (England, Germany, Italy, PECO), Central America (Mexico), South America (Argentina, Brazil), Asia (China, Vietnam, Laos) and Middle East (Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco). This expansion is driven by the willing of EDF to become an international leader in the electricity sector in order to strengthen its position over a medium term in the power generation markets. By the end of 2001, EDF had invested 10.8 billion euros in assets representing 32,000 MW and 20 million customers.
