ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE TO THE CHINA IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY IN THE NEW CENTURY BY RESTRUCTURE RELYING ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRESS

Today, the Second Anneal Conference on Iron and Steel held by The Chinese Society for Metals is open. On behalf of the State Administration of Metallurgical Industry, I would like to ardently congratulate the opening of the conference and warmly welcome the leaders and experts from iron and steel companies, research institutions, design institutes and universities all of the country, as well as the state departments concerned. This conference is just in the period of the celebration for the founding of The Peoples Republic of China for 50 years, and it is also an annual conference on iron and steel at the turn of the century. The participating experts will discuss and share the fruition and experience on the development and science and technology progress of iron and steel industry. Now, I would like to present my opinions on achievements of China iron and steel industry and the gap to advanced countries, the restructure relying on science and technology progress, and how to accept the challenge in the new century.
