摘要

One important iatrogenic cause for UTI is urinary tract catheterization, both catheters placed through the urethra and cystostomy tubes. Dogs and cats that develop UTI during hospitalization are over 100 times more likely to have had a urinary catheter and these animals are hospitalized longer than those without UTI. Twenty one per cent of dogs with intervertebral disc disease requiring bladder management during hospitalization developed UTI, as opposed to 0% of dogs requiring surgery that did not require bladder management.
