CASE PRESENTATION: ATYPICAL IMMUNE-MEDIATED HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA IN A DOG

Katie was a six year old spayed female Australian Shepherd dog from rural western Alabama that presented to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU-CVM) Animal Internal Medicine service with an eight day history of lethargy, anorexia, and fever. She originally presented to the referring veterinarian six days prior to referral with a three day history of lethargy and anorexia. Records from the referring veterinarian at the time of presentation reported that she was febrile, leukopenic, and anemic, with a packed cell volume (PCV) of 20%. The referring veterinarian started Katie on oral doxycycline (150 mg twice daily), gave several intramuscular injections of enrofloxacin and cefazolin, and referred her to MSU-CVM after her PCV decreased to 17% and she had not improved clinically.
