The anatomy of the internal structures within the claw capsule as well as that of the claw horn plays a unique and vital role in maintaining claw health during weight bearing. Important functions such as maintaining normal horn growth and claw conformation can become compromised by a variety of external and internal factors including the normal biomechanics of weight bearing. Common claw lesions and their relationship to pertinent anatomical structures and weight bearing where applicable will be discussed.
