Influence of extraction pH upon the FT-ICR MS profiles of water samples from the Athabasca oil sands region

The choice of extraction procedures influenced the sample profiles, particularly with respect to the range of heteroatom-containing compounds observed and the oxygen content. As profile comparisons are important for environmental forensics, the study highlights the need for further development of sample preparation methods for complex environmental samples.
