Molecular Classification of Cancer in a Mouse Model of Malignant Pleural Effusion by MALDIIMS

Our research successfully used MALDI IMS to investigate dynamic changes brought on by the onset of MPE in a mouse model. Molecular classification of prominent histological regions and Lewis lung cancer was achieved through the application of ClinProTools to MALDI IMS data. Preliminary investigations show we can monitor the spatial distribution of a powerful anti-tumor drug and its metabolite in excised organs or whole animals. Future work will focus on evaluating therapeutic efficacy by monitoring the response of protein markers responsible for molecular classification as a function of drug administration.
