Trade and Welfare, some Evidence from the Gravity Model

Gravity equations have been widely used to estimate trade flows between countries. Applied to a wide variety of goods, regional and national borders, it usually produces good fit. Some authors argue that economic integration can explain the increase in world trade and welfare. In this paper we discuss the role that the gravity equations can have in this explanation.
