This paper presents the results of an assessment of the contribution of fugitive geological dust to ambient PM_(10) concentrations within the San Joaquin Valley in California with a emphasis on the temporal and spatial variation in fugitive geological dust concentrations as indicators of different fugitive geological dust sources and different source strengths,as well as variations in the ratio of fugitive geological dust in the PM_(10) size fraction.The assessment is based on an analysis of ambient PM_(10) monitoring data from the California Regional Particulate Air Quality Study(CRPAQS)conducted in the San Joaquin Valley between December 1999 and February 2001.
