A single Texas Instruments TMS32C6201 ('C6x) DSP can potentially host a large, real-time, multi-channel, multi-algorithm telecommunications application, if the 'C6x processing power is utilized properly. There are two challenges in developing efficient applications for the 'C6x: (1) developing optimized single-channel algorithm code; and (2) developing optimized multi-channel, multi-algorithm applications. The first challenge is due to the complexity introduced by the very large C6x instruction word consisting of eight parallel instructions.
