In the river mouth in delta area, bay or inland lake, there is a sedimentary layer of soft organic soil which includes mud, fibrous soil or swamp peat.The geotechnical indexes of these kinds of soil are very poor. One or two of them incline towards close to the viscous fluid. In project practice, it seems very difficult to analyze and treat the soil according to the classical Teazaghi theory. The settlement prediction and the soil improvement now is one of the important and difficult problems in engineering. The author has been working in this field for many years and read a lot of publications, and tries to put forward his ideas on the compression settlement of soft soil and the soil improvement.
