The Early and Middle Jurassic terrestrial coal-bearing strata of Tuha basin, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, North-Western China (Fig. 1) are well-known coal and petroleum sources, especially a coal measure-related oil model from coal and carbonaceous mudstone in situ. This paper, based upon authors' research with comprehensive methods including sedimentology, organic petrology and geochemistry for a few years, shows (1) that the coal measure-related oil generated in the main generating stage is earlier and originates from desmocollinite B, bituminite, cutinite and suberinite; (2) that the oil-generating models of some macerals together with successful oil-expulsion experiment in terms of vitrain sample are expressed; (3) that the new laser-induced parameters and optical/ morphological indicators of both CLSM and TEM for oil-source correlation can be proposed; and (4) that the sedimentary organic facies may be expressed in paleogeographic map, from which the quantity of coal measure-related oil, the difficult problem for geochemistry, may be solved.
