The theory of near-field measurements for antenna practitioners is summarized to understand the procedure of planar near-field measurements in rectangular coordinates. The near-field of the antenna is measured with a probe in a plane in front of the antenna. The far-field of the antenna can then be calculated from the measured near-field data by means of the fast Fourier transformation. The authors present the results of an X-band standard gain horn as measured in the anechoic chamber DUCAT (Delft University chamber for antenna tests).
