A systemetic approach to develop -dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM) -based structural models for Portland cement concrete (PCC0 airport pavements is presented in this paper. The development of 3D FEM structural models for PCC airport pavements is part of the research efforts being undertaken by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The developed 3D FEM models are capable of capturing special features of PCC airport pavements including slab sizes, joints, stabilized-base layer and the interface effects between PCC slabs and base courses. Extensive study has been performed to determine element types, suitable model sizes, load assumptions, and boundary conditions.
