Almost all elements which are considered to be essential for man can be found in the edible part of marine fish in different concentrations and contribute to the wholesomeness of fish as food. The amounts of essential elements present in different fish species are demonstrated. From the figures given it can be concluded that fish flesh is an excellent source for some essential elements like selenium, iodine, fluoride and phosphorous. It contributes, however, only to a limited extend to the supply of calcium, iron, zinc, copper and manganese.
