Abstract: The methodologies and tools used recently in animationare presented and their most significant problems arerecognized. It includes creating of libraries ofrealistic 3D objects and describing the models ofanimation in 3D space. As a solution optical methodsusing structured light are proposed for gatheringinformation about shape of 3D objects. The fringeprojection system is applied for determination ofabsolute co- ordinate of 3D objects in respect to theirglobal shape and local texture. Additionally themeasurements at sequential stages of the objectmovements are performed. This information is the baseto calculate the trajectories of points' movement, andlatter to predict the model of animation. The conceptdescribed above is experimentally tested on simple 3Dobjects. The further works required to apply themethodology presented for description of complex,realistic objects are discussed. !6
