Terminological Data for International Information Exchange - the Multilingual Services of EURAMIS

Eurodicautom is the multilingual terminology data bank of the European Commission. It was designed by translators to serve their own needs. More and more civil servants other than translators make use of the system, which is also accessible on the European host ECHO.rnThe terms are stored in the data base in all the official and working languages of the European Union. Definitions of the concepts are normally found in at least one of the so-called major languages. Synonyms, technical notes, subject field indications etc. are also available. Grammatical features are less frequent; however, recent developments have led to integrate the terminology into machine translated dictionaries and shown the usefulness of such flags to favour the reusability of the data by machines.rnEURAMIS stands for European rapid advanced multilingual information services. It refers to an ambitious linguistic project currently under development. Both the terminological record and the computerized tools of the system are designed in such a way that data producers are encouraged to work together and data exchange is favoured. This is also true for terminology work in the field of forestry and related matters.
