The paper presents our experiments and results in order to explore the possibilities of building ITS (Intelligent Tutoring Systems) using a MAS (Multi-Agent Systems) approach. This approach helps us to study the intrinsic complexity of educational environments that consider more than one student working in a co-operative way (designed to be used on the WEB or without it). We present results that arose from previous work on the use of mental and affective states to build student and tutor models. This paper organises the results our group achieved, and tries to present and discuss the problems of having a more complex situation where more than two agents (tutor and student) appear. Overall, the goal of our research group is to have a social environment where several tutors and students interact in teaching and learning situations. We pursue a social model that would represent the society of pedagogical agents existing in an interactive ITS.
