It is important to know how evaporator design features affect the overall performance of no-frost evaporators operating in frosting conditions. A test has been developed to determine what design factors make one evaporator perform better than another under frosting conditions. The test described in this paper utilizes frost visualization and measurement of key system parameters. Testing has been performed to determine which factors are important in evaporator design as it pertains to frost tolerance. This information can be used to increase the cost-efficiency of evaporators in frosting conditions.
