    • 摘要: This special section is the scientific legacy of the 13th National Ocean Data Assimilation and Numerical Simulation Conference of China,which was held in Changsha,China during December 3–4,2020 with more than 160 participants from 35 units in China.It continued a series of National Ocean Data Assimilation conferences which began in 2003,which played an important role in the development of ocean data assimilation in China.In this 13th conference,there were 41 oral presentations and 15 posters,which focused on ocean data assimilation methods,ocean reanalysis data,developments and operational application of ocean data assimilation systems,assimilation of new type ocean observations,ocean targeted observation analysis,coupled data assimilation,ocean models and parameter estimation,etc.This conference was hosted by National University of Defense Technology,and cohosted by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences,the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology of Chinese Academy of Sciences,the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources,Ocean University of China,Tianjin University and Hohai University.
    • 摘要: The special issue entitled“Observations and Simulations of Greenland Ice Sheet Melting”will be published in September 2023 as general issue(Vol.34,No.3),the submission of manuscripts is suggested to focus on the following but not limited to topics:(1)Recent monitoring system on Greenland ice sheet(GrIS)with advanced techniques;(2)Interactions of GrIS with atmosphere and ocean(including sea ice);(3)Surface mass balance observation,reconstruction and modeling;(4)Ice flow dynamics,ice discharge estimation and global sea level contribution;(5)GrIS hydrology and other processes that may trigger ice sheet instabilities.

    • 摘要: In March 2021,Australia’s Great Barrier Reef played host to a rare field test of marine cloud brightening(MCB)technology.Blasting a seawater mist into the air from the aft of a research ves-sel using a turbine outfitted with novel spray nozzles,researchers watched the resulting white plume rise into the sky(Fig.1)[1].Over the last five years,the Reef has suffered multiple mass bleaching events because of ocean warming caused by climate change[2].The MCB project,led by senior lecturer Daniel Harrison of Southern Cross University,Coffs Harbour,Australia,is part of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program[3],a government-backed research and development initiative that aims to“develop,test and risk-assess novel interventions to help keep the Reef resilient.”

    • 摘要: The hydropower sector is currently experiencing several technological developments.New technologies and practices are emerging to make hydropower more flexible and more sustainable.Novel materials have also been recently developed to increase performance,durability,and reliability;however,no systematic discussions can be found in the literature.Therefore,in this paper,novel materials for hydropower applications are presented,and their performance,advantages,and limitations are discussed.For example,composites can reduce the weight of steel equipment by 50%to 80%,polymers and superhydrophobic materials can reduce head losses by 4%to 20%,and novel bearing materials can reduce bearing wear by 6%.These improvements determine higher efficiencies,longer life span,waste reduction,and maintenance needs,although the initial cost of some materials is not yet competitive with respect to the costs of traditional materials.The novel materials are described here based on the following categories:novel materials for turbines,dams and waterways,bearings,seals,and ocean hydropower.

    • 摘要: Background Oceans and seas constitute more than 70%of planet Earth,representing the largest habitat on Earth and a prolific resource for organisms with high biological and chemical diversity.Of this huge area,less than 5%of the seafloor has been explored in any way and less than 0.01%has been studied in detail.This exploitation,due to technical limitations,began with the collection of organisms such as algae(micro and macro),sponges,corals,which have been shown to possess a wide variety of compounds with unique chemical structures^([1,2]).

    • 摘要: In this paper,a fractional order model based on the management of waste plastic in the ocean(FO-MWPO)is numerically investigated.The mathematical form of the FO-MWPO model is categorized into three components,waste plastic,Marine debris,and recycling.The stochastic numerical solvers using the Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation neural networks(LMQBP-NNs)have been applied to present the numerical solutions of the FO-MWPO system.The competency of the method is tested by taking three variants of the FO-MWPO model based on the fractional order derivatives.The data ratio is provided for training,testing and authorization is 77%,12%,and 11%respectively.The exactness of LMQBP-NNs is observed by using the comparative performances of the obtained and the Adams-BashforthMoulton method.To verify the competence,validity,capability,exactness,and consistency of LMQBP-NNs,the performances have been obtained using the regression,state transitions,error histograms,correlation and mean square error.

    • 摘要: Internal waves(IW)are widely distributed at the marginal seas or continental shelves(Liu et al.,2013;Zhao and Alford,2006;Zheng et al.,2007).They have an amplitude of up to hundreds of meters and wave crests of several hundreds of kilometers,and affect ocean environments significantly(Wyatt et al.,2019;Zhang et al.,2022).
