Dear editor,Output tracking control is currently receiving increased attention because of its applications in various fields[1–3].Controller design for nonlinear systems with unstable linearization[4]is essential because such systems have several applications,including a class of underactuated mechanical systems.For the output tracking control for systems with unstable linearization,the global practical output tracking controller design was developed using the backstepping design method[5]and the asymptotic tracking control problem for a power-integrator planar system was addressed[6].However,these studies did not consider quantization[5,6].

The ability to quantify and predict the energy absorption/transmission characteristics of multi-layered porous medium is imperative if one is involved in the automotive, launch vehicle, commercial aircraft, architectural acoustics, petroleum exploration, or even in modeling human tissue. A case in point, the first four aforementioned fields rely on effective Noise and Vibration (NV) development for their commercial success. NV development requires the setting of NV targets at different system levels. The targets are then translated to Transmission Loss (TL), Insertion Loss (IL), and absorption (Alpha) performance for the multi-layered porous materials being utilized. Thus, it behooves to have a thorough understanding of the physics behind the energy dissipating mechanism of the material that entails the effects of the fluid meandering through the pores of the material and its interaction with the structural skeleton. In this section of the project the focus is on the thermal interchange that occurs within the porous medium. Via the acoustic modeling at the micro/macro level it is shown how this thermal exchange affects the acoustic compressibility within the porous material. In order to obtain a comprehensive approach the ensuing acoustic modeling includes the effects due to relaxation process, thus bulk viscosity and instantaneous entropy functions (effects due to vibration of diatomic molecules of air) are incorporated into the equation. The instantaneous entropy functions are explained by means of the Boltzmann’s distribution, partition function, and quantum states. The concept of thermal length and its connection to thermal permeability is clarified. Lastly, the results for TL calculations employing the aforementioned thermal exchange into the Transfer Matrix Method with finite size correction, (FTMM), pertaining to a simple multi-layered material is compared with experimentally obtained data.

This paper is concerned with a stochastic predator-prey system with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response and time delay. Firstly, we show that this system has a unique positive solution as this is essential in any population dynamics model. Secondly, the validity of the stochastic system is guaranteed by stochastic ultimate boundedness of the analyzed solution. Finally, by constructing suitable Lyapunov functions, the asymptotic moment estimation of the solution was given. These properties of the solution can provide theoretical support for biological resource management.

The purpose of this paper is to add some complements to the general theory of higher-order types of asymptotic variation developed in two previous papers so as to complete our elementary (but not too much!) theory in view of applications to the theory of finite asymptotic expansions in the real domain, the asymptotic study of ordinary differential equations and the like. The main results concern: 1) a detailed study of the types of asymptotic variation of an infinite series so extending the results known for the sole power series;2) the type of asymptotic variation of a Wronskian completing the many already-published results on the asymptotic behaviors of Wronskians;3) a comparison between the two main standard approaches to the concept of “type of asymptotic variation”: via an asymptotic differential equation or an asymptotic functional equation;4) a discussion about the simple concept of logarithmic variation making explicit and completing the results which, in the literature, are hidden in a quite-complicated general theory.

This paper mainly talks about the relationship between an optimal design of accelerated degradation tests and the degradation performance. When there is a linear relationship between the parameter of distribution and the critical values, a special pattern of accelerated degradation tests is presented by taking the critical values as accelerated variable. And the optimal test plan is obtained by minimizing the asymptotic variance of the MLE of the parameter of distribution. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the procedures of the test plan.

In this paper, we consider with the large time behavior of solutions of the Cauchy problem to the one-dimensional compressible micropolar fluid model, where the far field states are prescribed. When the corresponding Riemann problem for the Euler system admits the solution consisting of contact discontinuity and rarefaction waves, it is shown that the combination wave corresponding to the contact discontinuity, with rarefaction waves is asymptotically stable provided that the strength of the combination wave and the initial perturbation are suitably small. This result is proved by using elementary L2-energy methods.

To understand the influence of seasonal periodicity and environmental heterogeneity on the transmission dynamics of an infectious disease, we consider asymptotic periodicity in the fecally-orally epidemic model in a heterogeneous environment. By using the next generation operator and the related eigenvalue problems, the basic reproduction number is introduced and shows that it plays an important role in the existence and non-existence of a positive T-periodic solution. The sufficient conditions for the existence and non-existence of a positive T-periodic solution are provided by applying upper and lower solutions method. Our results showed that the fecally-orally epidemic model in a heterogeneous environment admits at least one positive T-periodic solution if the basic reproduction number is greater than one, while no T-periodic solution exists if the basic reproduction number is less than or equal to one. By means of monotone iterative schemes, we construct the true positive solutions. The asymptotic behavior of periodic solutions is presented. To illustrate our theoretical results, some numerical simulations are given. The paper ends with some conclusions and future considerations.
