This paper formulates the light timing calculations for each interferometer arm;one that is parallel to the direction of motion of the interferometer through space and the other that is perpendicular. The calculations are done for a vacuum-mode interferometer and then for a gas-mode interferometer. The calculations show that no light timing difference is detectable in a vacuum-mode interferometer, but once an optical medium is present in the light path down the arms of the interferometer, this is no longer the case and a timing difference is detectable. Further to this, the timing equations obtained from the analysis are used to model the historical experiments of Michelson-Morley and Miller (Mt Wilson) and predictions are made by the model that accurately match the actual recorded results from those experiments. Thus, this timing analysis confirms that there is a light speed anisotropy in a reference frame that is moving through space, indicating the presence of a preferred Aether reference frame through which the Earth is moving.

首先通过FRAME法对酒店的火灾风险进行评估,基于评估结果建立公众责任险费率浮动模型;其次,运用数值模拟方法计算评估对象的预期伤亡人数;最后基于模糊数学法和评估等级确定累计赔偿限额并进行实例应用,该研究可为保险公司科学合理厘定保险费率提供一定的科学依据和技术支撑。

Wavelet and Gabor systems are based on translation-and-dilation and translation-and-modulation operators,respectively,and have been studied extensively.However,dilation-and-modulation systems cannot be derived from wavelet or Gabor systems.This study aims to investigate a class of dilation-and-modulation systems in the causal signal space L^2(R+).L^2(R+)can be identified as a subspace of L^2(R),which consists of all L^2(R)-functions supported on R+but not closed under the Fourier transform.Therefore,the Fourier transform method does not work in L^2(R+).Herein,we introduce the notion ofΘa-transform in L^2(R+)and characterize the dilation-and-modulation frames and dual frames in L^2(R+)using theΘa-transform;and present an explicit expression of all duals with the same structure for a general dilation-and-modulation frame for L^2(R+).Furthermore,it has been proven that an arbitrary frame of this form is always nonredundant whenever the number of the generators is 1 and is always redundant whenever the number is greater than 1.Finally,some examples are provided to illustrate the generality of our results.

Period equations provided by seismic codes are generally derived by calibration with recorded period data of buildings located in high seismicity regions.These period-equations do not account for either the design level of seismicity or the permissible limit of lateral drift.Buildings designed under high level of seismicity are expected to display higher stiffness and shorter periods than buildings designed under low-to-medium seismicity levels.In addition,buildings designed with high level of permissible lateral-drift are expected to display lower stiffness and longer periods than buildings designed with low level of permissible lateral-drift.In this study,the theoretical fundamental-periods of an ensemble of regular reinforced concrete(RC)and steel moment-resisting frame(MRF)buildings having 3-,6-,9-and 12-stories and designed with various levels of seismicity and permissible lateral-drift are evaluated.The obtained outcome indicates the sensitivity of the MRF theoretical-periods to the design seismicity and the permissible lateral-drift.The results also indicate the need for modifying the current period equations to realistically account for the variations in the design seismicity and allowable lateral-drift of MRF buildings.

This paper presents the experimental and numerical studies conducted on a steel column and a steel frame structure using free vibration analysis.The effects of damages on structures were investigated,which were simulated by introducing multiple cracks at different locations in the experimental and numerical models.The acceleration responses of the test models,were recorded through an accelerometer,and were used to calibrate the numerical models developed in finite element based software.Modal frequencies of damaged and undamaged structures were compared and analyzed,to derive relationships for damaged and undamaged structures’frequencies in terms of crack depth.It was found that,due to the presence of cracks,the mechanical properties of a structure changes,whereby,the modal frequencies decrease.An approximately linear trend was observed for the frequency decrease with the increase in crack depth,which was also confirmed by the numerical models.The derived relationships were extended to further develop a mechanics-based damage scale for steel structures,to help facilitate structural health monitoring and screening of vulnerable structures.

To achieve virtual full-duplex(VFD)communication using half-duplex radios,the rapid on-off-division(RODD)technique has been proposed in recent years.The time-hopping(TH)sequence is critical to controlling self-interference introduced in the paradigm.By constructing the collision model with a symbol level time scale,the periodic collision correlation function properties are introduced as the performance metric for the TH sequence in the RODD system.To achieve the best VFD performance,an optimization-based method for TH sequence design is proposed.In addition,the conventional TH frame structure design for RODD system is improved.Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach can significantly increase system performance.Results indicate that the TH sequence design is very effective for the RODD system.

This article presents a physical model, which describes the ideas of special relativity, in a rational, logical, simple and understandable manner, while using basic mathematical tools. The model is based on Albert Einstein’s formula, which describes the “rest” energy of a body with mass (m), given by the formula E=mc2. Based on this formula, and in accordance with the theory of special relativity, we present here a model of a body, moving at a constant velocity in space (at high speeds, close to the speed of light), with speed equal to the speed of light in space-time, determined with an “energy angle” and negative mass. This model offers a method for creating negative mass, a calculating method for the relative velocity, and a method for calculating energy and momentum, in a completely elastic collision and plastic collision, different than in the contemporary nowadays method found in classical and modern physics. In addition, the new model solves problems and paradoxes known in special relativity physics, such as the Twin Paradox and others.

Seismic codes estimate the maximum displacements of building structures under the design-basis earthquakes by amplifying the elastic displacements under the reduced seismic design forces with a deflection amplification factor(DAF). The value of DAF is often estimated as ρ× R, where R is the force reduction factor and ρ is the inelastic displacement ratio that accounts for the inelastic action of the structure according to the definition presented by FEMA P695. The purpose of this study is to estimate the ρ-ratio of moment resisting steel frames(MRSFs) designed according to the Egyptian code. This is achieved by conducting a series of elastic and inelastic time-history analyses by two sets of earthquakes on four MRSFs designed according to the Egyptian code and having 2, 4, 8 and 12 stories. The earthquakes are scaled to produce maximum story drift ratios(MSDRs) of 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% and 2.5%. The mean values of the ρ-ratio are calculated based on the displacement responses of the investigated frames. The results obtained in this study indicate that the consideration of ρ for both the roof drift ratios(RDRs) and the MSDRs equal to 1.0 is a reasonable estimation for MRSFs designed according to the Egyptian code.
