Men’s magazines are publications that are devoted to men, which is an epitome of men’s values, aesthetics and discourses. An analysis of the cover girl images and topics of the FHM , a leading men’s magazine in China shows that the aesthetic discrimination in men’s magazines largely take the f orms of symbolization and one-sidedness of women’s images, and the loss of women’s discourse. The inequality of aesthetic positions constitutes the ma jor cause of aesthetic discrimination, and a clear evidence of this point is that women’s aesthetic tastes are in essence the internalized version of men’s aesthetic standards.%男性杂志作为专为男性而发行的刊物,是男性价值体系、审美情趣以及话语世界的集中体现,《男人装》杂志是目前我国男性杂志中的佼佼者。通过对该杂志中的封面女性形象、女性话题报道等内容的分析,可以发现:审美歧视在男性杂志中主要表现为女性形象被身体符号化、女性形象的片面化表达以及女性话语权缺失。审美地位的不平等是造成审美歧视存在的主要原因,女性审美观念是内化了的男性审美标准便是最明显的佐证。

近年来,以男性为明确服务受众的男性杂志正面临着前所未有的商业和文化机遇。在性别观照的广度和深度上此类杂志表现出快速生长期特有的两重性。杂志突破了传统文化对两性特质的规约,多样的生活方式和审美取向得到了尊重和肯定,充满个性色彩的男性媒介形象日益丰富;但是,性别窠臼仍表现出强大的现实干预力量:夸大男性的性能力、贬低女性的职业能力并将之物质化、迷恋暴力细节等现象普遍存在,模式化的性别形象塑造正成为男性杂志创新性发展的瓶颈。%In recent years, male magazine, whose audience is specifically men, is facing unprecedented economic and cul- tural opportunities in rapid growth period. This type of magazines shows particular duality in extent and depth in the growth period in the aspect of gender observation. The magazines break the stipulations on men in traditional culture. Living methods and aesthetic appreciation in diversity get respect and affirmation. The male media images full of individuality become more and more colorful. However, the set pattern of sex displays powerful intervention in reality, paying special attention to men potency and womenprofessional capacity and materializes it, and being infatuated with violent details. The stereotype shaping of men proves to be the bottleneck in the innovation development of male magazines.
