摘要:
At the Weizmann Institute of Science,a new high-power-laser laboratory has been established that is dedicated to the fundamental aspects of laser–matter interaction in the relativistic regime and aimed at developing compact laser-plasma accelerators for delivering high-brightness beams of electrons,ions,and x rays.The HIGGINS laser system delivers two independent 100 TW beams and an additional probe beam,and this paper describes its commissioning and presents the very first results for particle and radiation beam delivery.

In offshore structures,hydrocarbon fires cause the structure to loose its rigidity rapidly and this leads to structural integrity and stability problems.The Passive Fire Protection(PFP)system slows the transfer rate of fire heat and helps to prevent the collapse of structures and human losses.The vital design factors are decided in the detailed design stage.The determined design thickness must be accurately applied in the fabrication yard.However,there are many cases that the PFP is overused because of various reasons.This excessive application of the PFP is an unavoidable problem.Several studies have been conducted on the efficient application and optimal design of the PFP.However,the strength of the PFP has not been considered.In addition,research studies on the correlation between the thickness of the PFP and the structural behaviour are not widely available.Therefore,this study attempts to analyse the thermal and mechanical effects of the PFP on the structure when it is applied to the structural member.In particular,it is intended to determine the change in the behaviour of the structural member as the thickness of the PFP increases.

A significant amount of research is concerned with dynamic modal parameters for damage detection of structural conditions due to their simplicity in use and feasibility.However,their use for damage detection should be performed with special attention,particularly in operational and environmental conditions subjected to temperature changes.Beams in construction industries experience different loading types,such as temperature changes leading to crack initiation and propagation.Changed physical and dynamic properties such as natural frequencies and mode shapes indicate that damage has occurred within the structures.In this study,vibration analysis of cantilever and cantilever simply supported beams has been carried out on intact and damaged beams to investigate the coupled effect of temperature changes and damage depth on natural frequencies.A numerical analysis of beams is completed using ANSYS software.The results of numerical simulation are validated using two other studies from literature.Numerical results revealed that in order to perform a successful damage assessment using the frequency shift,the vibration modes should be selected properly.In addition,an increase in temperature results in a decrease in structural frequencies.The assessment of the effect of damage depth on natural frequencies also confirms that when damage depth is increased,there is a significant decrease in natural frequency responses.

The P3 installation of ELI-Beamlines is conceived as an experimental platform for multiple high-repetition-rate laser beams spanning time scales from femtosecond via picosecond to nanosecond.The upcoming L4n laser beamline will provide shaped nanosecond pulses of up to 1.9 kJ at a maximum repetition rate of 1 shot/min.This beamline will provide unique possibilities for high-pressure,high-energy-density physics,warm dense matter,and laser–plasma interaction experiments.Owing to the high repetition rate,it will become possible to obtain considerable improvements in data statistics,in particular,for equation-of-state data sets.The nanosecond beam will be coupled with short sub-picosecond pulses,providing high-resolution diagnostic tools by either irradiating a backlighter target or driving a betatron setup to generate energetic electrons and hard X-rays.

We present the results of the first commissioning phase of the short-focal-length area of the Apollon laser facility(located in Saclay,France),which was performed with the first available laser beam(F2),scaled to a nominal power of 1 PW.Under the conditions that were tested,this beam delivered on-target pulses of 10 J average energy and 24 fs duration.Several diagnostics were fielded to assess the performance of the facility.The on-target focal spot and its spatial stability,the temporal intensity profile prior to the main pulse,and the resulting density gradient formed at the irradiated side of solid targets have been thoroughly characterized,with the goal of helping users design future experiments.Emissions of energetic electrons,ions,and electromagnetic radiation were recorded,showing good laser-to-target coupling efficiency and an overall performance comparable to that of similar international facilities.This will be followed in 2022 by a further commissioning stage at the multipetawatt level.

Dear editor,To compensate for a coverage gap in mmW ave communication systems[1],a directional cell search(CS)scheme based on beam scanning was proposed[2–5].Directional beamforming using a narrow beam(NB)can improve the coverage by considering a high beam gain;however,it will introduce a significant CS delay(CSD)if the beamwidth is too narrow as the beams have to sequentially scan the entire target area in their cell searching phase to guarantee the coverage of all possible users[6].

Discretising a structure into elements is a key step in finite element(FE)analysis.The discretised geometry used to formulate an FE model can greatly affect accuracy and validity.This paper presents a unified dimensionless parameter to generate a mesh of cubic FEs for the analysis of very long beams resting on an elastic foundation.A uniform beam resting on elastic foundation with various values of flexural stiffness and elastic supporting coefficients subject to static load and moving load is used to illustrate the application of the proposed parameter.The numerical results show that(a)Even if the values of the flexural stiffness of the beam and elastic supporting coefficient of the elastic foundation are different,the same proposed parameter“s”can ensure the same accuracy of the FE solution,but the accuracy may differ for use of the same element length;(b)The proposed dimensionless parameter“s”can indeed be used as a unified index to generate the mesh for a beam resting on elastic foundation,whereas the use of the same element length as a criterion may be misleading;(c)The errors between the FE and analytical solutions for the maximum vertical displacement,shear force and bending moment of the beam increase with the dimensionless parameter“s”;and(d)For the given allowable errors for the vertical displacement,shear force and bending moment of the beam under static load and moving load,the corresponding values of the proposed parameter are provided to guide the mesh generation.
