    • 摘要: Decades of biochemical studies have advanced DNA beyond its primary role as genetic blueprint.DNAzymes are single-stranded enzymatic DNA molecules that do not exist in nature.They are ideal candidates for gene silencing owing to their scalability by solid-phase synthesis(without batch variations),reprogrammability by directed evolution and local sequence alterations,compatibility with diverse delivery methods,and capability of achieving high catalytic turnover independent of any auxiliary proteins.With these unique features,various artificially evolved DNAzymes have been employed as theranostic tools in designing biosensors and logic gates,RNA/DNA cleavage and ligation,phosphorylation and dephosphorylation,DNA photorepair,and peptide side-chain modifications,to name but a few(Ponce-Salvatierra et al.,2021).This perspective will focus on the functional aspects and therapeutic potentials of RNA-cleaving DNAzymes.

    • 摘要: Background: Pharmacovigilance of biological medicines is crucial because it ensures that medicines meet the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. In Zambia, there is little information on healthcare professionals’ familiarity, knowledge and practices on the pharmacovigilance of biological and biosimilar medicines. Therefore, this study investigated the familiarity, knowledge, and practices related to the pharmacovigilance (PV) of biological and biosimilar medicines at selected hospitals in Lusaka, Zambia. Methods: The study was an analytical questionnaire-based cross-sectional study conducted among healthcare professionals (HCPs) at the Adult hospital, Cancer Diseases hospital, Paediatrics hospital and Women and New Born Hospital in Lusaka. Data were collected over four weeks in May and June 2021 and subsequently analysed using IBM SPSS version 21. The statistical significance was set at a 95% confidence interval. Results: Of 245 participants, only 115 (48.9%) of the HCPs were familiar with biological medicines to a basic understanding. Regarding the term biosimilars, most of the HCPs (40.9%) never heard of this word. The mean score for knowledge regarding the PV considerations of biological medicines was 4.1 out of 8 questions. Most HCPs used non-proprietary names (44.2%) when prescribing, dispensing, or administering biological medicines. Additionally, more than half (57.3%) of HCPs did not record batch numbers when dispensing or administering biological medicines. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals were more familiar with the term biological medicines than biosimilars. Healthcare professionals generally scored poorly when their knowledge regarding the PV considerations of biological medicines was assessed. Thus, there is a need to provide adequate training and continuous professional development among healthcare professionals on the pharmacovigilance of biological and biosimilar medicines.

    • 摘要: In recent years,the withdrawal of several batches of articles from international academic journals has negatively affected Chinese scholars.The Chinese government,the scientific community,and many scientific researchers have made substantial efforts to rectify this problem.This Editorial reviews the mass withdrawal events as a whole;identifies their causes;and systematically investigates China’s policy adjustments,institutional arrangements,and regulatory mechanisms in response.We hope that,in addition to reminding authors to pay greater attention to avoiding withdrawals,this Editorial will provide guidance to help them conduct scientific research and present their achievements in a more standardized manner.

    • 摘要: The aim of this work was to test the adsorption efficiency of copper (II) ions in an aqueous solution on Natural Smectite (NS) and Activated Carbon (AC). The experiments carried out in batch mode made it possible to determine the stirring time, the adsorbent mass, the pH, the initial concentration of copper (II) ions, the isotherms and the adsorption kinetics. It appears that the stirring time was 15 minutes for the AC and 20 minutes for the NS. The adsorption was at maximum for the two adsorbents at optimum pH of 3.5 for a mass of 0.05 g each. The quantity of copper (II) ions adsorbed was 26.6 mg/L for NS and 36.6 mg/g for AC of a concentration of 600 mg/L each. The Langmuir isotherm was the one that best described the adsorption process for the two adsorbents. The adsorption kinetics obtained was that of the pseudo second-order for our two adsorbents. The results obtained showed that these two adsorbents were effective for the adsorption of copper (II) ions in an aqueous solution.
