The complexity and safety concerns associated with these structures are such that they probably need more attention compared to many other types of concrete structures. Also, offshore and marine concrete structures are so global in nature that there is a higher need for better coordination and synchronization of design, construction, inspection, and maintenance practices in different parts of the world.A two-part session, titled "Offshore and Marine Concrete Structures: Past, Present, and Future," was held at the Spring 2019 ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition on March 24-28 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The session, sponsored by ACI Committee 357, Offshore and Marine Concrete Structures, highlighted accomplishments of the past, current state-of-the-practice, and a path for the future. This ACI Special Publication (SP) is a compilation of select papers presented at the session. The efforts of all the reviewers in assuring the quality of this publication is greatly acknowledged. -

Significant advancements have been made over the last decades to enhance the performance and durability of bridge elements at affordable costs. From an application perspective, novel analysis techniques and construction methods are particularly notable, which have led to the realization of more sustainable built-environments. As far as the evaluation and rehabilitation of constructed bridges are concerned, new nondestructive testing approaches provide accurate diagnosis and advanced composites, such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), have become an alternative to conventional materials. This Special Publication (SP) contains nine papers selected from two technical sessions held at The ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition – Spring 2018, in Salt Lake City, UT. The objective of the SP is to present technical contributions aimed to understand the state of the art of concrete bridges, identify and discuss challenges, and suggest effective solutions for both practitioners and government engineers. All manuscripts were reviewed in accordance with the ACI publication policy. The Editors wish to thank all contributing authors and reviewers for their rigorous efforts. Fibers are made with different materials and can provide different levels of tensile/flexural capacity for a concrete section, depending on the type, dosage, and geometry. This guide provides practicing engineers with simple, yet appropriate, design guidelines for FRC in structural and nonstructural applications. Standard tests are used for characterizing the performance of FRC and the results are used for design purposes, including flexure, shear, and crack-width control. Specific applications of fiber reinforcement have been discussed in this document, including slabs-on-ground, composite slabs-on-metal decks, pile-supported ground slabs, precast units, shotcrete, and hybrid reinforcement (reinforcing bar plus fibers). -

实施时间:摘要: In October 28-31, 2018, the Chinese Ceramic Society and the China Academy of Building Research (CABR), Beijing China, in association with ACI, sponsored the Twelfth International Conference on Superplasticizers and other Chemical Admixtures in Concrete in Beijing China.More than 80 papers from all over the world were received and peer reviewed. A total of 36 refereed papers were accepted for publication in the proceedings of the conference. The proceedings were published by the ACI as SP 329. Also, 54 additional papers were presented at the conference, and were published in the Supplementary Papers Volume. The organizers of the conference were the Chinese Ceramic Society, Beijing and the Committee for the Organization of International Conferences (formerly CANMET/ACI Conferences). -

实施时间:摘要: This report outlines the causes, control, maintenance, and repair of erosion in hydraulic structures. Such erosion occurs from three major causes: cavitation, abrasion, and chemical attack. Design parameters, materials selection and quality, environmental factors, and other issues affecting the performance of concrete are discussed.Evidence exists to suggest that, given the operating characteristics and conditions to which a hydraulic structure will be subjected, the concrete can be designed to mitigate future erosion. However, when operational factors change or are not clearly known and erosion of concrete surfaces occurs, repairs should follow. This report addresses the subject of concrete erosion, inspection techniques, and repair strategies, providing references to a more detailed treatment of the subject. -

实施时间:摘要: Fiber reinforcement is the most effective way of improving the resistance of concrete to cracking, but little is known of the extent of the reduction of crack width with fiber.The papers included in this special publication discuss the role of fiber reinforcement in reduction of crack width and lay the foundation for Life Cycle Engineering Analysis with fiber reinforced concrete.Recognizing the reduction of crack width with fibers in cement-based materials, ACI Committee 544 Fiber Reinforced Concrete, together with 544F Fiber Reinforced Concrete Durability and Physical Properties sponsored two technical sessions entitled Reduction of crack width with fiber at the Fall 2016 ACI Convention in Philadelphia. Papers were presented by invited international experts from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.This Symposium Publication (SP) contains eleven papers which provide insight on the state of the art of the topic in the academia, in the industry and in real life applications. The topics of the papers cover the reduction of crack widths in steel reinforced concrete bridge decks with fiber, 15 years of applying SFRC for crack control in design from theory to practice, the effectiveness of macro synthetic fibers to control cracking in composite metal decks, conventional and unconventional approaches for the evaluation of crack width in fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) structures, reduction of water inflow by controlling cracks in tunnel linings using fiber reinforcement, a review of Engineering Cementitious Composites (ECC) for improved crack-width control of FRC beams, tailoring a new restrained shrinkage test for fiber reinforced concrete, a model to predict the crack width of FRC members reinforced with longitudinal bars, a probabilistic explicit cracking model for analyzing the cracking process of FRC structures, toughening of cement composites with wollastonite sub micro-fibers and self healing of FRC: a new value of "crack width" based design. The papers included in this publication have been peer reviewed by international experts in the field according to the guidelines established by the American Concrete Institute. -

Composite tanks consist of a steel water storage vessel supported on a cylindrical reinforced concrete pedestal.Concrete-pedestal elevated water storage tanks are structures that present special problems not encountered in typical environmental engineering concrete structures. This guide refers to ACI 350 for design and construction of those components of the pedestal tank in contact with the stored water, and to ACI 318 for design and construction of components not in contact with the stored water. Determination of snow, wind, and seismic loads based on ASCE/SEI 7 is included. These loads conform to the requirements of national building codes that use ASCE/SEI 7 as the basis for environmental loads as well as those of local building codes. Special requirements, based on successful experience, for the unique aspects of loads, analysis, design, and construction of concrete-pedestal tanks are presented. -

Material is presented in an order that follows typical design process with procedures introduced as the designer will need them in the course of a building design. Much of the information presented in this guide is derived from ACI 318, ASCE 7, and the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) (International Code Council 2015). The quality and testing of materials used in construction are covered by references to the appropriate ASTM standard specifications.Whereas many of the tables, charts, and values included in this guide originated from the aforementioned reference documents, they have been modified or reorganized to be more conservative, to match design process flow, or better support the holistic and simplified design approach presented.Although this guide is not written in mandatory language, the information is presented in such a manner that a structure designed following this guide will, in principle, comply with the codes and standards on which it was based. Although this guide is written in nonmandatory language, it is meant to be applied as a whole, because the simplified provisions are interdependent, and it would be unsafe to employ only a portion of this guide and disregard the remainder. This guide is not a code and is not deemed to satisfy ACI 318, ASCE 7, and the International Building Code (International Code Council 2015). This guide is expected to be especially useful in the education and training of engineers in reinforced concrete design of low-rise structures of small to medium floor areas.There are many options within these standards that are not considered in this guide, such as the use of supplementary cementitious materials in concrete mixtures. As this guide will be used as a design aid, it is the licensed design professional?s responsibility to ensure that the structure design satisfies the requirements of ACI 318, ASCE 7, the International Building Code (International Code Council 2015), and the legal requirements of the local jurisdiction. The original draft of the guide, published as ACI IPS-1 (2002), was produced by a Joint Committee of Instituto Colombiano de Normas Técnicas y Certificación (Colombian Institute for Technical Standards and Certification) (ICONTEC) and Asociación Colombiana de Ingenieria Sismica (Colombian Association for Earthquake Engineering) (AIS).The initial drafting of ACI IPS-1 (2002) was motivated by frequent worldwide discussions that reinforced concrete codes might be unnecessarily sophisticated for some applications, such as small low-rise buildings. Current knowledge of reinforced concrete behavior obtained through experimentation and experience, and its status and dissemination as a structural material used worldwide, made developing a simplified design and construction guide feasible. This guide used ACI IPS-1 (2002) as a basis, with information derived from ACI 318, ASCE 7, and the International Building Code (International Code Council 2015).This guide presents simplified approaches to assist engineers in designing low-rise buildings within certain limitations, in addition to the following:(a) Information on the order needed in the course of a design(b) Explanatory material at appropriate places(c) Computations only requiring a hand calculator(d) Graphs and graphical explanations(e) Design information based on simplified strength models(f) Other limit states accounted for by minimum dimensions(g) Conservative loads and simplified analysis guidelines(h) Simplified geotechnical information to help define soil-bearing capacity(i) Shear walls as the seismic-force-resisting system(j) Material and construction guidelines based on commonly available steel grades and medium-strength concrete that can be site mixed. -
