实施时间:摘要: A new technique is proposed to design the optimal intermediate die geometry of a multi-stage drawing process in which the shape of the product is a rectangular rod. A program is developed using the proposed technique. In the design of the intermediate die geometry, the virtual drawing die is constructed using the initial round billet as an entrance of the virtual drawing die and the final product as an exit, then the virtual drawing die is divided into pass numbers. Divided intermediate die geometry with an irregular shape is transformed into a rectangular shape for manufacturing of the drawing die. To verify the application of the proposed technique to real industrial products, it was applied to a conventional drawing process composed of two stages and simulated by the three-dimensional rigid plastic finite element method. The proposed technique is compared with experiments. -

实施时间:摘要: Today's aerospace industry uses finite element analysis in a huge variety of applications to optimize structures and processes before hardware is procured. Efficiencies can be enhanced and margins reduced because external loads and structural properties are identified with higher confidence. The accuracy of finite element analysis predictions therefore becomes more and more important and directly influences the competitiveness of the product on the market. To process static test data, MSC/NASTRAN analysis results, and perform correlation analysis and FE model updating, appropriate methods were developed and implemented into the existing FEMtools software. This paper describes the approach and gives reference to a successful application. -

实施时间:摘要: Shape deposition manufacturing (SDM) is a solid freeform fabrication (SFF) process that systematically combines the advantages of layered manufacturing with the advantages of material removal processes. The basic SDM fabrication methodology is to deposit individual segments of a part, and of support material structure, as near-net shapes, then machine each to net shape before depositing and shaping additional material. This method takes advantage of the basic SDM decomposition strategy which is to decompose shapes into segments or compacts, such that undercut features need not be machined, but formed by depositing onto previously deposited and shaped segments. Each compact in each layer is deposited as a near-net shape using one of several available deposition processes. 实施时间:摘要: Distortion during machining can result in high scrap rates and increased manufacturing costs. Distortion results from either the introduction or elimination of residual stresses during manufacture. Residual stresses which are induced in the surface by machining and grinding, or throughout the body by welding or heat treatment, can generally be measured and controlled. Distortion caused by re-equilibration after removal of stressed material during machining is more difficult to avoid and is the primary cause of scrap in precision components. Examples of the residual stress distributions typically seen in heat treated components and the development of finite element models to minimize distortion are presented. -

实施时间:摘要: Compression tests were conducted on solid aluminum billets and ring test samples. During compression the friction at the surface was measured with two variations of the cantilever sensor, each of which gave a true, point by point measurement of surface friction forces. It will be shown how friction varies across the billet surface and across the surface of the ring test sample, in unlubricated testing. Examples of the results for compression tests of up to 30% reduction will be shown. The Coulomb friction model will be used to illustrate how the experimental results can be interpreted. Also, the existence of the neutral zone in the ring test will be verified and its location shown accurately. -

实施时间:摘要: Plasma-jet forming is a newly proposed flexible sheet metal forming process. Instead of mechanical part specific tools, a non-transferred arc plasma-torch is used to produce internal stress for forming the sheet metal. This method has the potential to reduce development cost and lead-time for forming prototype parts. In order to develop a controllable plasma-jet forming system and to improve the forming accuracy, the effects of process parameters and their relationships have been investigated. In addition, material properties have also been studied to understand the roles of forming parameters and their relationship in optimizing the forming procedure - high forming speed without material damage. -

实施时间:摘要: Using simulations and experiments, a systematic qualitative and quantitative analysis of the frequency content of turned surface profiles is presented. The foundation is a model of the surface generation process based on process geometry and kinematics. The principal goal is to create a methodology that establishes a correlation between the machined surface topography and of the factors that affect it, and that allows the prediction of the profile's frequency domain characteristics. The essential variables considered are the relative motion between the tool and the workpiece, defined by vibrations and error motions, and tool geometry. -

However, when reverse engineering free-form surfaces a perennial question is the limit on the number of points to be measured and the size of the grid in which the points are measured. 实施时间:摘要: To deal with today's frequently changing and complex business processes, this paper presents a structured modeling algorithm for manufacturing enterprise business processes by using CIMOSA behavioral rules and free-choice Petri nets. The well-behaved properties such as liveness and boundedness are critical for enterprise business processes. They enable the avoidance of possible deadlock, endless loops and dangling tasks in process models. However, for complex systems, the checking of the well-behaved property is a NP-hard problem. In this paper, a structured process modeling algorithm is presented. The resulting process models from this algorithm are free-choice Petri nets whose well-behaved property can be decided in polynomial time. The process models resulted from this algorithm also have the advantages of modularity, readability, and maintainability. -

实施时间:摘要: End-cracking failures are common in cold extrusion of long automotive drive shafts. Finite element analysis of these failures shows that cracking is primarily due to the elastic tensile unloading at the exit of the extrusion die land. This paper proposes a failure mechanism and a stress based failure criterion for this cracking. It analyzes the original single reduction die, and investigates a double reduction die design for the reduction of the residual tensile stress at the die exit. It analyzes the new die and compares this stress state with that of the single reduction die. Finally, it uses the design of experiments technique for determining the optimum die design parameter for minimum tensile stress state. -

实施时间:摘要: In this paper we describe three vision-based behaviors for mobile autonomous robots. The first behavior is vision based collision avoidance. The second behavior is a tracking behavior, which allows the study of autonomous robots moving in a room. The third behavior is the use of the tracking program to communicate to the robot where it is and how to get to its goal, a type of visual servoing. All of the behaviors are implemented on the TJ Pro(tm) robot with the Argos(tm) pan-tilt head. The PC is connected to the robot through RF serial and video connections. -

By varying the workpiece material (copper and aluminum), workpiece surface roughness (.75-3.6 micrometer), cutting tool material (coated and uncoated), operating velocity (100 and 200 m/min), and normal load (50 - 500 gm), friction coefficient results were generated at more than 250 distinct operating conditions. Using advanced microscopy and profilometer techniques, the profiles of the resultant wear tracks and chip/debris particle were obtained. -

实施时间:摘要: Tolerance analysis is critical in manufacturing process planning to ensure the quality of products. The tolerance charting technique is a popular approach for tolerance analysis. Its purpose is to analyze the problem of tolerance stackup in manufacturing. Although tolerance chart analysis is successful in handling dimensional tolerances, it is not sufficient in dealing with geometric tolerances. It is also a reactive approach that analyzes a set of predetermined process sequences rather than providing proactive guidance to setup and fixture planning. In order to achieve total tolerance control, a tolerance normalization approach is proposed in this paper. A normalized tolerance is defined as the maximum permissible rotational deviation of the datum from its ideal position in component locating. -

实施时间:摘要: The chip formation in metal cutting which is not easily observable and measurable during machining is modeled by means of the finite element method (FEM). The reciprocal interaction between mechanical and thermal loads is taken into consideration by involving the thermo-viscoplastic flow behavior of workpiece material. Local and temporal distributions of stress and temperature in the cutting zone are calculated depending on the cutting parameters. The calculated cutting forces and temperatures are compared with the experimental results. The model can be applied in process design for selecting appropriate tool-workpiece combination and optimum cutting conditions in terms of mechanical and thermal loads. -

实施时间:摘要: Adaptive influence-coefficient methods have proven successful at controlling unbalance-induced vibration of rotating machinery without requiring a priori knowledge of machine dynamics. If initial influence estimates are inaccurate, however, vibration may become worse temporarily before the estimation converges. An auto-tuning method is presented here that adjusts adaptive gain parameters during control convergence. The auto-tuning method limits worst-case vibration while allowing the same convergence rate as conventional fixed-parameter adaptive control. A supervisory control method is also introduced that automatically selects vibration thresholds for enabling and disabling control based on estimated plant dynamics. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the auto-tuning approach.
