摘要： This American National Standard describes Test Methods for the evaluation of Identification (ID) carddurability. An ID card is defined as a card identifying its holder and issuer which may carry data requiredas input for the intended use of the card.These test methods are to be used by card issuers, card manufacturers and card component suppliers tomake comparisons of ID card performance. These test methods do not imply a specific correlation to enduse field performance or a given card service life. However, these test methods may be useful for rankingor comparing the relative durability of ID cards.Results obtained by use of these test methods should not be represented as equivalent to field useperformance or an absolute index of ultimate card service unless a degree of quantitative correlation hasbeen established for the ID card material construction in question.These test methods do not possess and do not constitute requirements for ID cards in general. Thereader is referred to specific application standards for performance requirements and acceptance criteria.It is the responsibility of card issuers and their suppliers to decide which attributes are required for cardperformance in a given card application and to mutually agree which test methods may be appropriate toassess card performance.

Scope and Purpose1.1 ScopeThis standard provides a physical specification with similar electronic characteristics to Proximity IntegratedCircuit Cards (PICCs), such as those specified within ISO/IEC 14443-2 and 3. The physical card thickness (finishedcard body) formats, are defined within this specification and may also have references to both ISO/IEC 7810:2012(ID1-Identification cards), INCITS 440 (Card Life Cycle), and ISO/IEC 15457 for thin flexible cards and otherthickness dimensions as called out in this standard. Construction attributes, pertaining to the materials,functionality, and environmental requirements and the targeted use of these cards are also specified. This type ofPICC is to be classified as a Limited Use?Proximity Integrated Circuit Card (LU-PICC).1.2 PurposeThis Standard provides for LU-PICCs that are designed to satisfy the need for a minimal cost contactless smartcard or an electronic paper ticket as a form of electronic media. These LU-PICCs have limited features and definedlife cycle expectations, while providing core electronic interface technology compatible with the established andlatest published ISO/IEC 14443-1, -2, and -3 parts of the standard where PICCs are designed to accommodateother application requirements. (Optionally), ISO/IEC 14443-4 may be implemented if no other specificationswithin this document are compromised. Further, this LU-PICC specification is not intended for applications wherecard life-cycle requirements are significant (The intended application of the Limited Use PICC is for use of aduration no greater than six (6) months or where extensive and high-security applications are not required orintended. The life cycle may be extended, where a twelve (12)-month period of usage is required if the card isconstructed of a thin plastic or composite material allowing for this greater life expectancy.) This class of PICCmay be applied to any application that requires a low-cost RFID ISO/IEC 14443 compliant technology. Exampleapplications include: private and public transit systems requiring electronic ticketing, building security accesssystems, retail, as well as many other applications that are not provided for through the international standardsforum. The LU-PICC also provides for a companion card to the standard PICC where full-featured-long-term cardsare required. Alternatively, a cost-effective short-term card may provide for a more cost-effective productoffering for both the users and system providers who require only a limited amount of usage. Both cards operateon the same proximity coupled reader (PCD), providing for a signal technology acceptance system.

摘要： This American National Standard defines a method to determine a card application class for the intended card use.Once the service life application is determined, the standard defines test methods and requirements for the cardapplication.An identification (ID) card is defined as a card identifying its holder and issuer which may carry data required asinput for the intended use of the card. Identification cards include, but are not limited to: fishing licenses, driver'slicenses, access control cards, credit cards bankcards, student ID cards, government ID cards and military IDcards.This standard is to be used by card end users, card issuers, card manufacturers, card component suppliers, andcard personalization equipment manufacturers to make predictive comparisons of performance of ID cards. Thisstandard should be useful for comparing the relative durability of newly issued cards and to predict service life.Failure to conform to specified criteria noted within this document shall be negotiated between the involved parties.
