PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tilting pad type journal bearing which suppresses the non-uniformity of a bearing oil film in the axial direction and prevents the occurrence of thermal bending vibration while suppressing a force for destabilizing the swinging vibration of a rotor. Provide a rotating machine to be equipped. SOLUTION: A tilting pad type journal bearing 1 includes a housing 7 through which a rotor 2 is inserted, and a plurality of tiltable pads 3 arranged between the rotor 2 and the housing 7. Further, the tilting pad type journal bearing 1 includes two surfaces 4b and 5a that are not in contact with each other and exist between the outer surface 3a of the pad 3 and the inner surface 7b of the housing 7.
