Mechanisms for implementing a mood analysis mechanism are provided to perform a mood analysis of a medical event and a drug designation within a medical document based on a medical context. The mood analysis mechanism analyzes a medical document to determine the occurrence of a medical event associated with a medicinal product designation and analyzes contextual content associated with the occurrence of the medical event and the medicinal product designation, to identify one or more moods,which are present in the contextual content. The mood analysis mechanism determines a mood associated with the medical event and the drug designation. The mood analysis mechanism generates metadata on medical cues that link mood to the medical event and drug corresponding to the drug designation, and applies the metadata on medical cues to an analysis of other medical documents to determine moods, the cases of the medicinal product designation or medical event in the other medical documents.
