Disclosed is a method for producing a quantum dot ensemble that comprises: a plurality of core-shell type quantum dots 10A each of which has a core 10B composed of a compound semiconductor and a shell 10C which is composed of a compound semiconductor and covers the core; and ligands 10D coordinated to the shells. The method for producing a quantum dot ensemble comprises mixing a core material, a shell material, and ligands in a solvent and heating the same to form quantum dots, coordinating the ligands to the shells, and cleaving the ligands.
