Bidens pilosa and its phytochemicals for use in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea

Bidens pilosa for use in treating, inhibiting and/or reducing the presence of a pathogenic intestinal flora in an animal in need thereof; orCompositions comprising an active compound isolated from Bidens pilosa are disclosed. The pathogenic intestinal flora is at least one selected from the group consisting of Brachispira, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), infectious gastroenteritis coronavirus (TGEV) and rotavirus (RV). The composition is also for use in treating, inhibiting and/or reducing the incidence of swine diarrhea, swine dysentery, swine viral infection and increasing the percentage of porcine carcase and bone weight. In one embodiment, the composition is for use in treating, inhibiting and/or reducing the incidence of porcine dysentery associated with Brachyspira.
