A wireless power system may include wireless power transmission devices, wireless power reception devices, and wireless power transmission and reception devices. The devices in the wireless power system can exchange packets to transmit various types of data. The data can be transmitted using in-band communication (e.g., amplitude shift keying modulation or frequency shift keying modulation). The devices can use locally assigned addresses to communicate with every other device in the wireless power system. Even if a first device is not inductively coupled to a second device, the locally assigned addresses can identify an inductive coupling path from the first device to the second device that includes at least one intermediate device. The first device can therefore communicate with the second device using in-band communication packets relayed by at least one intermediate device.
