A potholder (1) for protecting one's hand (2) when gripping an object, for example a grab bar (3), in order to protect against microbes present therein. Such a pot holder comprises a sheet (6) for interposing between the bar and the hand, a grip (7) for the thumb (21), a grip (8) for one of the other fingers (22, 23) and means to keep the potholder folded when not in use, in order to confine microbes with which it may have been soiled.
