An apparatus of a user plane of a communication network is configured (S201) for use in a centralized configuration model of the communication network and/or for use in a distributed configuration model of the communication network by setting, for at least one port of the apparatus, a value of a first parameter and a value of a second parameter. A combination of the value of the first parameter and the value of the second parameter indicates, for the at least one port, a status according to the use in the distributed configuration model and the use in the centralized configuration model. For the at least one port of the apparatus, the value of the first parameter and the value of the second parameter are signaled (S203) to a control apparatus of the communication network.
