The present invention relates to a collagen biomaterial and a method of manufacturing collagen biomaterials.The method disclosed herein includes preparing a suspension of an insoluble collagen fiber, preparing a layer deposited interface, applying an electric field to the entire suspension and producing electrophoretic deposition of an insoluble collagen fiber at a layer deposited interface.The biomaterials disclosed herein include a layered composite comprising a layer comprising a sequence of collagen fibers, and at least a first fibrous layer and a second fibrous layer comprising an array of collagen fibers, and a shape adapted layer sandwiched between the first fibrous layer and the second fibrous layer.The biomaterials described herein may be useful in various tissue engineering and other applications.No selection
