The invention relates to a device (20) for producing electrical energy in a conveyor belt (9) of a belt conveyor (1), wherein the device comprises a generator (35) for generating electrical energy and preferably a battery (41) for storing the produced electrical energy. For the production of energy, a peristaltic pump (21) is provided in the belt (9). The peristaltic pump (21) is assigned a turbine (33) which can be driven by the peristaltic pump (21), wherein the generator (35) is connected to the turbine (33) for conjoint rotation for the purposes of generating electrical energy.
