The invention relates to a gas cyclone oil separator (10), comprising a jacket tube (16) provided at both ends with an outlet opening (19, 20), into which a gas-oil mixture under pressure via at least one inclined inlet channel (22) can be introduced in such a way that an external vortex flowing down from the inlet channel (22) occurs, which reverses in a lower region of the casing tube (16) to an internal vortex rising within the external vortex, whereby centrifugal forces on the wall of the casing tube (16) separated oil (24) escapes through the lower outlet opening (20) and gas cleaned of oil (24) escapes through the upper outlet opening (18). The invention is characterized in that the casing tube (16) has three cylindrical axial sections (161, 162, 163), namely a central inlet section (161), a reversal section (162) adjoining the inlet section (161) at the bottom, and a reversal section (162) at the top at the inlet section (161) adjoining outlet section (163), the inlet channel (22) opening tangentially into the inlet section (161) with a downward inclination.
