The invention concerns a process for the manufacture of a pressure-hardened component with the following steps:Provision of a steel strip with an aluminium-based coatingInstallation of an inorganic iron-containing conversion layer on the aluminium-based coating with a layer weight related to iron of 3-30 mg/m2Cold rolling of the steel strip to a flexible rolled strip with sections of different sheet thicknessCutting a base plate from a flexible rolled strip, the base plate having different thicknesses with a thinnest and thickest sheetPressure hardening of the base plate into a component.Alternatively, cold rolling may take place before or after cutting and applying the conversion layer, or welding of at least two steel strip sections with an aluminium-based coating having different sheet thicknesses, instead of cold rolling, before or after welding the conversion layer is applied.
