A method for generating data for a two- or three-dimensional representation of at least part of an object (100) is described. The method comprises generating (S100) a 3D model (208) of the part of the object (100) using a 3D image (100a, 100b) of the part of the object (100) and providing (S102) data using this of the 3D model (208), which describe the vertices of the part of the object (100) in three-dimensional space and the color values assigned to the vertices. The 3D model (208) is generated using at least a first 3D image and a second 3D image of the object (100) from different positions, the first and second 3D images at least partially overlapping. The method further comprises generating (S108) a first 3D model using the first 3D image and a second 3D model using the second 3D image and combining (S110) the first and second 3D models into a common one 3D model (208), the data being provided using the shared 3D model (208). Providing (S102) the data comprises reducing the amount of data without data loss, wherein the reducing comprises the following: determining the spatial distances of the peak values and coding the spatial distances as consequential differences on the basis of a predetermined starting point.
