Feedwater, heating; water-circulation, promoting; superheaters, steam.-The feed-pipe a, Fig. 2, is passed in the form of a loop a' through each furnace flue of a Lancashire boiler, as shown in Fig. 1, then through similar loops in the bottom flues, and finally through the side flues to near the front, where it delivers the water into the boiler near the bottom on each side. By closing the valve b and leaving the valves c open, the pipes serve as a circulation system, water leaving the boiler at one side and returning to it at the other side. A similar arrangement may be fitted to a Cornish boiler. For superheating steam, a similar arrangement of piping may be employed, the steam pipes being led through the water space into the furnace flue; or the pipes may be passed first into the side flues, then in the form of loops through the furnace flues and the bottom flue, and finally forward along the side flues. The superheated steam may be discharged again into the boiler to assist in getting up pressure.
