Moving-beater a pparatus; moving-container apparatus.- Relates to apparatus for slaking lime, mixing it with sand &c., and manufacturing blocks &c. from the mixture. A steamtight casing 7 is arranged to be raised and lowered on a central steam pipe 10 by tackle 8, and is secured to a turntable 2 by pivoted bolts 20 fitting in slots in the edge of the turntable. The casing can be lowered over a slaking and mixing cylinder 32, or over a wheeled frame or cage fitted with sliding shelves for supporting bricks during the hardening process, and is fitted with a safety-valve, pressure gauge, guide sleeve 17, perforated steam coil 27, and pipes or couplings with cocks for connecting it with the steam supply pipe and a cooling or annealing chamber 29. The mixing-cylinder is mounted on wheels 33 adapted to run between the retaining bars 15 of the turntable, and is fitted with mixing-blades 27, and formed with projections 39 by which it can be raised and tilted. The turntable is rotated by means of a shaft and a pinion gearing with a crownwheel, while a central shaft 34 of the mixer is fastened to a fixed shaft 36 and is provided with stationary blades 35. Instead of using a movable casing, the turntable or platform 2 may be raised with the mixer or cage up to a fixed overhead casing by a vertical hydraulic ram, or screw and bevel nut arrangement. In another form, two or more mixing-drums are carried by radial arms of a rotary shaft so as to balance one another, and are provided with manholes and square axles which are secured in square recesses in the ends of the arms by removable caps and bolts. An axle at one end of each drum is made hollow and fitted with a cock for the admission and escape of steam or water. In another arrangement, a horizontal rotary drum is made with a shell sloping to the manholes through which the slaked mixed material is discharged into hoppers fitted with sliding bottoms operated by a lever. Below the hoppers are coarse and fine meshed sieves suspended by links and rocked by a crank disc and slotted bar or the like. Fig. 9 shows a vertical mixing and slaking chamber 70 with inlet and outlet manholes 76, 77, an agitator 71 rotated by a vertical shaft and bevel gearing, steam pipes 85 for connecting the chamber in series, and a steam jacket 83.
