Elevators; conveyers; loading and unloading.- Consists of apparatus for loading and unloading vessels &c., and especially for dealing with bananas, loose oranges, fruits, vegetables, &c., which require careful handling. A frame B, running on rails on the quay, has pivoted to it at d a swinging frame composed of the pivoted links D, E, E1 capable of being swung into any desired position to suit the vessel, state of tide, &c., by means of tackles H, K operated by drums H1. These drums and one of the truck axles are driven through clutches from a motor C and shaft C2. The swinging frame supports an endless elevator and conveyer, comprising two chains G1 running on pulleys F, F1, &c. and f, f2, &c. mounted in pairs, so that the endless looped apron G, Fig. 3, for receiving the fruit &c. is passed between the pulleys. The loops of the apron are unloaded gently by means of adjustably mounted rollers N adapted to engage the loops, Fig. 5. The connection between the apron and each cross-tie P, Fig. 7, of the elevator, comprises a sleeve R, round which the apron is clipped, this sleeve being mounted on the cylindrical ends of two nuts Q screwed on the tie P and formed with flanges q. The reduced ends of the tie pass through the links of the chain, and are fitted with washers.
