Gas-producers. - In apparatus for the production of poor gas free from tarry matters, the coal is first distilled in a central tube C, which discharges into a closed receptacle R underneath the producer. The volatile matters escape through the perforations 0 and pass upwards through the fire with the steam and air admitted through the opening E. Access is had to the receptacle R through a door P.
